Gem Setting Tutorial Package
This gem setting tutorial package is a hands-on study of how to securely and intentionally set stones using wire. The series covers a range of techniques from foundational settings to more advanced designs, all focused on developing control, tension, and precision through repetition.
Inside, you’ll learn multiple approaches including woven settings, prong settings, channel settings (straight and curved), spiral settings, seated stone techniques, and loop-based settings. Each tutorial builds on the last to help you improve structure, stone placement, and overall confidence in your work.
This system is not about speed or perfection. It’s about learning how wire behaves, understanding how to properly seat and secure stones, and developing a repeatable process you can grow with over time. Mastery comes through repetition.
Tools needed:
Lindstrom snip nose pliers
Lindstrom flush cutters
Bail pliers
Materials needed:
Square wire (24g, 21g, 18g)
Half round wire (21g, 18g, 16g, 14g)
Round wire for binding (28g recommended, optional 26g and 30g)
Wire lengths typically range from about 70mm to 100mm depending on the project
Stones used throughout the series include 3mm to 10mm faceted stones and various cabochons, though similar stones can be substituted.
This series is designed to be practiced. Plan to create multiple test pieces as you learn, especially when working with smaller stones or more complex settings. Each attempt will improve your spacing, tension, and overall control.
